Why are you unhappy?
Because 90 percent of what you do, think, and feel relates to your self, and there isn't one.

According to the secretary (of Agriculture Dan Glickmanm) 96 billion pounds, or 27 percent of our nation's food supply, is thrown away every year by children and adults who, for whatever reason, don't eat everything served on their plates.

"There are two ways of getting rid of the ego, the limited  self. One is to meditate, which I think is the most direct.

The other is to fall in love."

To shovel shit against the tide forever

THE INVITATION

It doesn't interest me to know what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,
and if you dare to dream your hearts longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk being a fool for love,
for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon.
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow,
if you have been opened by life's betrayals
or if you have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain!
I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own;
without moving to hide it or jade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own;
if you dance with wildness and let ecstasy fill you to the tips
of your fingers and toes without cautioning us
to be careful be realistic, or to remember the limitation of being human.

It doesn't interest me to know if the story you're telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself,
if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.
I want to know if you can be faithful and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see beauty even when it's not pretty every day,
and if you can source your life from Gods presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine,
and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver moon, "YES!"

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after a night of grief and despair,
weary to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me to know who you are, how you came here.
I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself,
and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

One is a point.  It doesn't exist. It requires another to make it real.

But two is an illusion.

Whenever you have two, you have automatically the relationship between them, making three the first number that has any sort of concrete reality.

FOR A SMILE, PLAY THIS
INFLATION!

If you bought something for $100 in 1998,

1960:       18.29

Have faith ye wielders of the pen!

Having your writing rejected hurts hugely, but you're in good company.

Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabit was rejected six times before being published.

Gone With The Wind was dissed by over 25 publishers, who will spend the rest of time kicking themselves in the ass.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull sold 30 million copies, but collected 25 rejection slips first.

Zen and the Art of Motorcyle Maintenance was told where to stick it a whopping 121 times.  Now that's Perseverance!
There are two kinds of injustice; the positive injustice of the aggressor,
and the negative injustice of neglecting to defend those who are wronged.

Really Sobering stuff for a nation with one of the highest stadards of living in the world and whose founding philosophy is the notion of liberty and justice for all.

The US has the world's highest incarceration rate, surpassing Russia and China, and the world's largest prison population. With less than five percent of the world's population, the US now has fully one-quarter of the world's prisoners.

There are six times as many Americans behind bars as are imprisoned in the 12 countries making up the entire European Union, even though those countries have 100 million more citizens than the US.

Nearly one in three African American boys born this year will spend some time in prison.
31 million Americans and 791 million people in poorer
countries ``still face hunger as a regular fact of life,''

The latest study by Bread for the World today (reported 2/10/00)
Dr. Bonnici offers all you need to be truly happy:

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.   2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.   3. Follow the three R's: Respect for self, Respect for others and, Responsibility for all your actions.   4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.  5. Respect, and honor the spirit of rules without being in bondage to their lettering. 6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship. 7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.  8. Spend some time alone. Do not take the Source of your breath or heartbeat for granted. 9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your basic human values.  10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.  11. Live a good, honorable life. When you reflect on it in Old Age, you'll enjoy it a second time.  12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life. Do all you can to create a tranquil, harmonious home. 13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past. 14. Share your knowledge. It's a way to realize immortality. 15. Be gentle with the earth.  16. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.  17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other. 18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it. 19. Call your mother. 20. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE?

Cough  repeatedly and very vigorously, taking a deep breath
before each cough.  Repeat about every two seconds.
It's as close as you'll get to giving yourself CPR.

When are we gonna do something about this????

The income gap between the fifth of the world's people living in the richest countries and the fifth in the poorest was 74 to 1 in 1997, up from 60 to 1 in 1990 and 30 to 1 in 1960."

By the late 1990s the fifth of the world's people living in the highest income countries had 86% of the world GDP (Gross DomesticProduct)the bottom fifth just 1%."

The top fifth of the world's people in the richest countries enjoy 82% of the expanding export trade and 68% of foreign direct investmentthe bottom fifth, barely more than 1%."

The net worth of the world's 200 richest people increased from $440 billion to more than $1 trillion in just the four years from 1994 to1998.

The assets of the three richest people were more than the combined GNP of the 48 least developed countries.

The assets of the 200 richest people are more than the combined  income of 41% of the world's people."

A Story (I got this in an email and don't know the author)

A group of frogs was traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the unfortunate frogs they would never get out. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and simply gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and suffering and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs asked him, "Why did you continue jumping. Didn't you hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.

This story teaches two lessons:

1.There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.

2.A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them. Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path.

The power of words....it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times. Special is the individual who will take the time to encourage
another.
